Sanat Kumara

Sanat Kumara plays a major role in the religious traditions of the East. Each role shows a different facet of his Divine Self. In each role, he teaches something different about God and about our Path to God.

Skanda or Karttikeya
Sanat Kumara is revered in Hinduism as one of the four or seven sons of Brahma. They are described as youths who upheld purity. The Sanskrit word for Sanat Kumara means "the eternally youthful one. Sanat Kumara is also known as the "Ancient of Days. In the Bible, the Ancient of Days is mentioned by the prophet Daniel in the Old Testament (Daniel 7:9, 7:13-14, 7:21-22). In Aramaic, the name Ancient of Days means Atiq Yomin and in the Greek Septuagint Palaios Hemeron and in the Latin translation of the Bible Antiquus dierum.

In Hinduism, Sanat Kumara is sometimes called Skanda or Karttikeya, the son of Shiva and Parvati. Karttikeya is the god of war and chief of the gods and their divine "armies. He was born specifically to defeat Taraka (the demon that symbolizes ignorance, or lower consciousness). Karttikeya is often depicted holding a spear that represents enlightenment. He uses the spear to destroy ignorance.

In Hinduism, war stories are often used as allegories for the inner struggles of the soul.

God of Wisdom and Education
The Indian writer Parthasarathy says that Karttikeya is "the man of perfection who has discovered the Supreme Self. Wielding his spear of destruction symbolizes the destruction of all negative tendencies that hide the divine Self.

Skanda-Karttikeya as he is sometimes called, is also considered the god of wisdom and education. He is said to give spiritual powers to his worshippers, specially the power of knowledge. An inscription on the 5th century stone pillar standing in northern India describes Skanda as the protector of divine Mothers.

Divine Mother resides within yourself. Her dwelling place is in the white chakra which is at the base of the spine. This chakra has four petals and this sanctified fire is your life force. It is the energy that rises to meet the light that comes down through the "crystal cord. You can see the crystal cord on the image of your "I AM Presence. The energy of the Father-Mother God comes down through the crystal cord and the sacred fire of the Mother rises up from the tailbone chakra. In this way we are nourished by the Father from above and the Mother from below, and yet the Father (above) contains the Mother, and the Mother (below), contains the Father.
