Lord Maitreya holds the office of Cosmic Christ and Planetary Buddha. His name means "loving kindness," and he focuses the radiation of the Cosmic Christ to the evolutions of the earth. Guarding the planet from Venus, he succeeded Lord Gautama Buddha as Cosmic Christ when Gautama became Lord of the World at a Royal Teton ceremony on Jan. 1, 1956. Under the office of the Cosmic Christ, Maitreya oversees potential changes and the entering and leaving of fallen angels and the progression of the incarnate Christ.
In the history of the planet, there have been countless Buddhas who have served earthly evolutions through the steps and stages of the bodhisattva's path. Lord Maitreya, the Cosmic Christ, has completed the initiations of the Buddha. He has stepped forward this time to teach all who have strayed from the path of the Great Guru Sanat Kumara, of whom Maitreya and Gautaama are descendants.
Maitreya is worshiped in Tibet, Mongolia, China, Japan, and throughout Asia where he is honored by Buddhists as the "Compassionate One" and as the coming Buddha. While Maitreya is accepted by all Buddhists, he assumes several roles in different cultures and religious sects. These roles include the protector and restorer of the Dharma; mediator and protector; a guru who personally initiates, teaches and communes with devotees; a savior who descends when the world is in turmoil; a messenger sent by the Divine Mother to save her children; and the Zen Smiling Buddha.
Buddhist scholar Evans-Wentz describes Maitreya as the "Buddhist Redeemer, who regenerates the world through the power of divine love and ushers in the New Age of Universal Peace and Brotherhood. He is currently in Tushita Heaven from which he will descend and be born among men to become the future Buddha to reveal once again, as Gautama and the long Dynasty of Buddhas did, the path that leads to the Great Liberation.
In Chinese Buddhism, Maitreya is sometimes depicted as the "Hemp-bag Bonze" (A "bonze" is a Buddhist monk). In his role, Maitreya appears as a chubby, jolly and portly smiling Buddha. He is often shown seated holding a duffel bag while happy children climb over him. To the Chinese, he represents prosperity, material well-being and spiritual contentment; the children represent the blessings of a large family.
Lord Maitreya and Lord Gautama were the first among humanity to respond to the magnetic call of Sanat Kumara to face God and return to the divine state in which humanity was originally created and who he was destined to portray in the world of form. The time arrived when the one who had served the earth as its Planetary Buddha, to choose to return to his own planetary chain, leaving a vacancy in office to be filled by those among the earthly guardians. The Lord Maitreya applied for the initiations necessary to be qualified for this office. Centuries of self-discipline, training, devotion and mastery were required before he could rise to his present state. His colleague during all these experiences in the classroom was Lord Gautama, who, by a margin won the first Buddhist degree while Lord Maitreya was assigned the second office, that of World Teacher.
As World Teacher, his mission was to design for each two thousand year cycle a specific spiritual instruction that was most required for the human race during that period. Whenever there was a tried and willing instrument, he served as a mediator, polarizing the atoms of the four lower bodies of that life stream so that the divine plan of that individualized I AM Source could flow through his instrument, thus portraying in the world of form the works of Christ.
Lord Maitreya is the teacher of Jesus, who, with Kuthumi holds the office of World Teacher. Maitreya, on behalf of an evolving humanity, demonstrates the cosmic consciousness of the Christ in all areas of human endeavor and His universality across the cosmos. He is known as the Great Initiate and was, in fact, the initiate of Jesus in his individualization of the Christ flame in his final embodiment as world savior and example of the way, truth and life for all aspirants on the path of personal Christhood.
Maitreya himself was a chela of Lord Himalaya (manu of the fourth root race) and has his own Focus of Enlightenment in the Himalayan mountains. He was the guru of twin flames in the Garden of Eden, which was a mystery school of the Brotherhood. The Mystery School of Eden that was on Lemuria and present day near San Diego, was the first Mystery School on planet Earth. And Maitreya, referred to as the Lord God in Genesis, was its first hierarch.
