The first service for each of humanity is honor and worship of the God-Self, the great master within each individual. By thus attuning the attention of the outer mind to the only giver of all the good we can ever receive, the outer mind is elevated to the full acceptance of the supreme conquering power anchored in the human form, which is, after all, divine.
If a man, in his service to man, does not keep his attention attuned to the "supreme Source "of love, wisdom, and power, then he has to a great extent failed in that service. If, in the pursuit of things in the outer world, he becomes so engrossed that the conscious attention becomes attuned to the manifestation, rather than to the supreme Presence that produces it, then again he has missed the mark.
Again, if for man in his great desire to serve, the overwhelming desire to serve his fellow man, makes him neglect to keep his attention attuned to the supreme Procreator, then that service too has failed in a great measure.
The only true service lies in keeping one's attention so firmly attuned to and accepting - the great master within - the sole Procreator because the outer mind becomes so filled with the inner Presence, that naturally every activity of the day becomes the perfect divine service of the moment, without thought.
Then the great master within - the Mighty I Am Presence - is always the driver of the outer activity, until the whole action becomes perfection in expression. The outer self, until it is fully awakened, has periods when it unconsciously wants to show off its vanity and abilities before its fellow man. This always requires some shock to shake up the outer self until he becomes aware of what he is doing.
Then he searches wildly around him for his Source of power, which he has either forgotten or consciously pushed aside; for in our compulsive choice and use of free will, this great master within will not impose himself unless joyfully welcomed and invited to do so.
Never let any desire for service rob you of the necessary time to attune your attention and acceptance undividedly to your great master within and then know that you will naturally give the right service and do the right thing. This is the law of true divine service.
